Coached Fitness is a lesson in humility.  After just a couple of weeks, you quickly realize that THIS is what working out should feel like.  Every bone in your body is hurting, but the next day you can’t wait to go back.

I came looking for the usual: wanting to fix things about my body that I did not like; reduce this and tone that.   Today, it’s not that I don’t care anymore about the imperfections, because I do, but now it’s a lot more about what my body can do, and not about what it looks like.  Exercise is no longer just a medium to looking better, but about BEING better.

In the end, this is JP’s secret: He empowers his clients.  And the great part, is that throughout the whole process you don’t feel preached to or yelled at, but rather genuinely cared for.

I am one of those people that live to eat and when I started with JP about 14 months ago, I had no problem boasting about my meals in class.  “The pork belly was amazing.” “The bottle of wine was superb.” “I live for truffle fries sprinkled with parmesan cheese and had two orders for dinner.”  . . . and on and on.   About three months after joining Coached Fitness, I told JP that I wanted to lose inches around my belly, inner and outer thighs and lean out everywhere.  His look was that of concern and surprise or maybe amazement, since I wanted to achieve the miracle of losing inches while eating my French baguette and Brie cheese dinners accompanied by Mr. Merlot.


JP provided me with a daily nutritional plan aimed at shedding fat while building lean muscle and kindly asked to give up alcohol for at least two weeks.  So as my life got boring, since my break up with Mr. Merlot, my body started to change . . slowly, yet significantly.  Once I no longer needed to shake my way into my jeans, I challenged myself to do a half marathon.  I beat my goal by 2 minutes with the assistance of my new eating habits and endurance exercises – all created by JP.


Now it was my time to challenge JP so, I signed up for the NYC marathon and gave him 16 weeks to motivate me, shape me, and get me to the finish line, alive. With the motivation of classmates, bi-weekly e-newsletters, monthly quotes on the board, the famous clock on the wall, and my goal in mind, I shed 7% body fat, 14 pounds and completed the marathon, alive and well – so well, that I am now training for my second full marathon. Without JP’s knowledge, motivation, exercises, and genuine interest in my personal goals, I could have never crossed that finish line


I am in my mid-30’s and in the best shape of my life; physically, mentally, and spiritually.  I am proud to say that I have been Coached Fitness by JP. Life is good, but a good healthy life is better.

My experience in working out at Coached Fitness has been great.

I started working out here to lose the weight from my pregnancy. I needed something more personal than a gym, but not bored with a personal trainer. After 3 months of dedication I lost 12 pounds and was feeling more confident.

JP really pushes me and proves that you can always do more.

Working in a group setting makes the time there more enjoyable. I feel im getting the personal trainer deal without paying the personal trainer price.

I know JP Montanari for about two years; he is my fitness "guru".

Through this long journey I came to appreciate, his kindness and the energy he transmits.

I was a very lazy person, what I always wanted to do was to sleep all day… I LOVE Sleeping. When I enrolled in Coached Fitness 4 months ago I only had one goal and it was for me to start liking a little more to exercise. Before Coached Fitness, I was enrolled in many gyms but always ended up quitting after few months, because I wouldn’t.


Now I have been enrolled in Coached Fitness for almost 4 months I believe it or not I REALLY REALLY like it. My goal has been accomplished. I now LOVE exercising!

For the first time ever, I enjoy exercising and look forward to my next class.
I have a 22 month old son, and since I had him, until I met JP, I couldn´t (or didn´t  wanted!!) to find the time for exercising and for getting back in shape. I had the most creative excuses for being busy all day long! My husband can testify about thatJ, and I even gained weight during that first year.


I heard about JP through some friends and decided I needed to give it a try…I had to do something to get back on track!!!


I called JP, and told him I had never been constant with exercise. During my life I´ve tried many different things that I enjoyed for some periods of time, but never had the discipline to continue.


My motivation was to lose some weight, to be in shape and to be toned for the first time ever.


I have to admit, that in the beginning it was very hard.
I felt comfortable knowing JP was taking good care of each of us in the group, but it was very difficult!!! . Every time we started a new exercise I was TERRIFIED!!!!!!!
After a couple of weeks it started getting better and better, and I was able to accomplish much more that I ever imagined. For example, in the beginning I couldn´t run one lap, and yesterday I ran 22 minutes nonstop!


Today, after 9 months with JP, I am so motivated that I don’t want to ever stop!! I feel GREAT!


I lost 12 pounds and I see great changes in my body....which I am very happy with, but also there´s been changes in many aspects of my life. I feel much more energetic, satisfied and excited for being able to reach my goals. JP is always encouraging me to try harder, to believe in myself, and to do my best on every new routine we try. He is always cheering me up.


Besides the exercise and training we also have a great time.
It´s like having a personal trainer, because JP is dedicated to everyone in the class, with our different needs, but also we get to know very fun and interesting people. It is a great environment to get disconnected from my daily routine and responsibilities.I keep complaining during class about almost every exercise, driving him crazy many times, but end up doing everything in the best possible way and having a blast.

"I am writing to you on behalf of my fitness coach, JP Montanari. I have been working out under the supervision of JP for almost one year. While weight was not an issue for me, getting in shape was. I feel JP helped me reach that goal. JP is an exceptional fitness coach for many reasons. He is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of health, fitness and nutrition. He has incorporated all of these elements into his workout sessions. JP knows just how much to push his clients to get a few extra push ups out of us or 15 more seconds of a difficult cardio workout. I never thought in a million years that I could lift any weight heavier than 7 or 8 pounds. JP, over the course of our workout, has encouraged me to lift 12 to 15 pound dumbbells. "I worked with JP Montanari for about six months.  He was the trainer and I was the Nutritionist.  Within in that short time we became close friends.  I got to observe a lot of his training sessions.  I also counseled all his clients on a one to one basis in regards to their diet.

"I first met JP Montanari about a year ago. I had just discovered that turning 40 meant a big change to my body. I had tried going to a "regular" gym a couple of months earlier but was intimidated by the weight training and didn't see much of a result.

I had never done a push up or lifted weights when I met JP. I was not overweight but had no muscle mass. JP  immediately knew what I needed which was a fitness coach that was going to push me, make me lift heavier weights, make me go a little longer.

Two years ago I decided that I needed to take control of my health and lifestyle, and I managed a

portion of it, but I hit the wall with a good bit of my plans incomplete. I went to a local gym for the

"My name is Laura Shellswick-Lerner and I am a current client of JP Montanari.  I have trained with JP three times per week for one year and his sessions get better every week.  Have I lost a ton of weight? No, at 125 pounds I don’t really need to and that is not my goal.   I have accomplished building muscle, increased my cardiovascular abilities and have become strong physically and mentally.

Almost five years ago I gave birth to twin boys who were born 15 weeks early and each weighed less than 2 pounds.  For 4 years, my life was all stress and was 100% dedicated to making my boys healthy and strong.  I had completely forgotten about me.  Actually I didn’t forget about me, I didn’t have time for me.  

My son Asher has Cerebral Palsy and we were told he would probably never walk or talk.  I didn’t listen.  From the time he came home from the hospital he was doing therapy 6-8 hours per week and then at three years old started full-time preschool and still had all of his therapy besides.  He is truly my hero and at almost 5 years old talks, walks, runs and jumps.  He was my motivation to get back in shape.  I had to be a good example for him.  If I was requiring him to “workout” all the time then I had to give up my excuse of, “no time”, and just do it.

JP knows my kids and understands my motivation but he lets me escape three times a week from being Mom and lets me be Laura.  He knows if I am having a bad day and redirects my energy to get me focused on me, my health and my fitness.   There is no easy way out training with JP.  If I am injured we work around it but we always work.  If I am totally stressed out and feel the need to box he’ll work that into the day’s activities.  If I am trying to sneak a lighter weight to work with he always calls me out on it and tells me to get a heavier one.  He knows my abilities better than I do.  

Working out with JP is such a positive experience.  He works within his client’s fitness levels but pushes them to go further.  He inquires about our self sabotaging eating, especially on Monday morning, and makes us work off the calories and the guilt.  On Fridays he asks about weekend plans and then pushes us to work hard for the calories we are planning to consume.  JP takes a vested interest in his clients; if they succeed he succeeds as well.  If I can’t make it to my session JP will shoot me an email making sure the kids and I are alright.  He holds his clients accountable for their actions and provides the tools for them to be successful in reaching their goals.

After each session working out with JP, I always leave feeling empowered and powerful."
